Brief Outline : Crashworthiness of the automobile is important from the energy management and occupant safety point of view. This is a basic course which covers all the important advanced theory aspects of crash /impact simulation and a number of tutorials followed by practical projects on subsystem are covered in this course . HYPERMESH and RADIOSS are the tools used for this .
Eligibility : Post Graduate Enginnering students of Mechanical , Production ,Automobile engg branches or experienced candidates.
Prerequisite : Finite Element Modeling and Basic FEA Course.
Contents : Importance of crash analysis in automobile and other industries . Understanding the Finite element discretization and various kind of matrices . Explicit and Implicit Schemes and softwares . time step and stability conditions for explicit and implicit methods .The importance of CFL Condition . Meshing guidelines for crash , understanding the minimum element length criteria , Different shell elements and their performance ,Reduced Integration and Hourglass modes , Thumb rule for Hourglass energy . Integration rules and number of integration points through shell thickness , damping and its charadctierization , rigid and deformable parts , restarting the analysis .Tutorials and pratical project work .
